*Must meet captain eligibility standards

  • Top Overall Team (Richard G. Lugar Award – honoring the late Senator from Indiana who participated a record 31 times between 1981-2012)
  • Top Two Senate Teams
  • Top Two House Teams
  • Top Two Judicial Teams
  • Top Two Executive Branch Teams
  • Top Three Media Teams
SPECIAL AWARDS
  • Best Team Name
  • Worst Team Name (James B. Kenin Award – honoring the late Nike consultant who supported the race in its earliest years)

Capital Challenge Awards Rules

Overall Individual Awards (Male & Female)

  • The first male and first female to cross the finish line will be awarded the Overall Winner titles.
  • Gun time (official race clock time) will be used to determine these winners.

Individual Captain Awards

  • Will be determined using chip time (time recorded from crossing the start line to the finish line).
  • If a team does not finish with all five members, the captain is still eligible for an individual captain award as long as they complete the race.

Team Awards

  • Team rankings will be based on the sum of the chip times of all five team members.
  • The team with the lowest combined chip time will be awarded 1st place, followed by 2nd place in their respective division.
  • A team must have all five members finish to be eligible for team awards.

Award Eligibility Notes

  • Chip time will be used for all individual awards except for the Overall Winners, which are determined by gun time.
  • Team captains are eligible for individual captain awards even if their team does not finish all five members.
  • Runners who do not complete the entire course will be disqualified at the discretion of the official timer.
